HoreToday 20th May 2013. Quite a very long time, I did disappear from this blog. Been busy with system developing and class to conduct. May 2nd we have celebrated my youngest son 14th birthday. Venue of celebration is Domino Pizza, Jitra.

And last week, on the 13th May, celebrating my eldest son silently. Ha!. Silently, because he was busy with the semester exam. So he was occupied with studying, last minute preparation I guessed!. "Not last minute study". And last week also celebrating the Teacher's Day silently too, coz my student also busy preparing for their semester exam.
Today, double birthday celebration. So many wishes from my acquaintance, relatives, students etc. Why double, coz we are also celebrating my daughter who definitely is sharing her birthday with me all these year, since she was born!.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-85899805968145284572012-10-08T12:18:00.001+08:002012-10-14T10:58:32.348+08:00How to be a good teacherThe title i chosed this time, sound so simple, easy to say, but yet not as easy as it looks to be one. To be a good one means to be the preferable, the best you could do, and the kind of student like most.

Rule number 1 (Know Your Student Well)

Today i prefer to discuss what it's need to enable you to be a good teacher as deserved by your student. First it's very vital for a teacher to know well their student. Not that hard, coz the first thing when you need to do is to get acquainted with them. Get their names and try to capture the names with the face. So how to do that when you have so many students???. How to remember every names, how to recall which one is which and whose name belong to whom?

So, here are the tips.
1. The first class, instead of just deliver the course content to cover for the whole semester, what is the evaluation required, what student should do, what they should get, etc...., (though these requirements are important too, but keep it second). Introduce yourself, tell the student where to find you, or just let them have your phone number or email address. Ask them what they need to know about you. Therefore the student will feel that you are closed to them, and they know well where to find you when they need you.
2. Let them introduce themselves. Instead of only their full names, let them state what is their preferable name need to be address later, their home town, their hobbies, etc and what is unique about them that differentiate from others. This unique thing, make they are easy to be identified.
3. After they have introduced themselves, just go round the table (the class) each one, try to say again their preferable name that you could remember. If you have a very good memory, sure you could easily say one by one perfectly. But don't worry, not everyone in the world can easily memorize thing perfectly, at least you tried to show them that you have taken the first step, the first iniative to get to know them.
4. The next step remind them, the next time they come to class, please have with them a paper stands on the table(near their seat) to show their names. (Actually you can ask them to fold an A4 paper into three, write their name in the middle part of the paper creatively, and put them nicely with them. If you are standing in front, and they are sitting far far away at the back, you can still see the name on the table. Each time, when you have an interaction with them in class just call their name. I'm sure your student will feel so overwhelmed when they know that their lecturer/teacher knows and can say their names correctly.
5. When you have memorize most of their names, let them take away the A4 paper with their names, just call them as the names the remembered. They sure appreciated your effort.
6. When the student knows that you can say their names and can identify which names belong to whom, they sure feel so close to you. And of course when you are close to them, whatever contents, whatever knowledge you need to deliver can be done good enough.
7. But remember this is only the first step, wait for the next edition of this.

Hmm, the second rule will be coming soon. bye for now.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-61384950864407096672012-03-21T23:35:00.002+08:002012-03-21T23:54:59.182+08:00Be AccessibleWonder why this rule is not included in Ron Clark 55 essentials!.

Being an educator we should be accessible by our student. So that's the way I chose to be. In my own perception a teacher need to be friendly and easy to get along with. It is vital for a teacher to be easily approached by our student. In order to do so, a teacher should have the important factor that guaranteed the success of being accessible which is attitude. Be friendly, and being friendly doesn't mean that you need to be so talkative or a blabber. When a student come and approached you, doesn't matter how busy you are at that time, do give some time. Show your interest in them, and this can be done by your body language. When your hear what they say, do look at their eyes, show that you are interested in what they are about to say, and do lean your body forward instead of backward, caused this gesture is very important that your mind is there and not somewhere else. Do smile, do laugh when necessary, listen attentively , express affectionate interest in their story. That wasn't hard at all. I love to do this, I love to be close to my student, I love to entertain them, and I'm sure when I did all these, they will become close to me too, and their passion towards learning will grow, their perception towards education will thicken and these can assure that they will be in the right track.

Enough for tonite.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-8909014736577986282012-03-19T22:06:00.003+08:002012-03-19T23:17:51.228+08:00"The Essential 55" by Ron ClarkRule 9
“Always say thank you when I give you something. If you do not say it within 3 seconds after receiving the item, I will take it back. There is no excuse for not showing appreciation.”

Rule 10
“When you are given something from someone, never insult that person by making negative comments about the gift or by insinuating that it wasn’t appreciated”

Hmm specifically I want to stressed Rule 9 and 10 by Ron Clark. Well, both rules are not just for kids but also for grown up. Why sometime it's so hard for some people to show some appreciation. Is it so hard to say simple words (thank you or just tq) but could bring great impact to others. Is it because of the "do not know how to express the appreciation" or due to the "upbringing" or due to the "culture" or due to the "shyness". For whatever reasons, we must educate our kids soon as the know how to talk. I do hear parent teach their toddler the word "tima kacih", absolutely coz they can't pronounced it well but I believe that is an example of how we do nurture the good values starting from young ages. Sometime and most of the time I'm sure how the words "thank you" might change the world. The word "thank you" could also established some kind of bond, connection among strangers. So do always appreciate what ever good deeds happened to us. Don't ever forget to say thank you and appreciated the good things received, nevertheless it is tangible or not. And when you want to express the appreciation please do with the honesty in your heart. Because it's very obvious when you say something that you do not mean it. Because when it comes from the sincere heart, it will obviously appear on your face. And one more thing when thanking or appreciating, do it in such a way that is pleased. Either the tone of voice or the body language shown, it's really matter. Never ever say bad thing of what people gave you, even sometime you don't need the thing but do show that you are pleased with it.

Enough with rule 9 and 10 I guessed.

Lets proceed with Rule 49 , 50 and 55.

Rule 49
"Stand up for what you believe in. You shouldn't take no for an answer if your heart and mind are leading you in a direction that you feel strongly about."

Rule 49 is so true. Do hold tight to whatever you think is right and stand up for it. This is where you should fight for what you believe in. No doubt, when you disagree with someone's idea, you will find ways to strike the point of views given. Yet, do not offended them coz it's so immature to say bad things to others view or opinion. it doesn't matter to have split idea and different point of view, but we must be strong enough to defend our believe yet at the same time think of yourself in other people's shoe. And the most of it, if you dislike the opponent's view, just disagree with the view only, never hate the people him/herself.

Rule 50
"Be positive and enjoy life. Some things just aren't worth getting upset over. Keep everything in perspective and focus on the good in your life."

I like this rule. That's is why we should see the world in a positive way only. When we set to see it positive, then the eyes will transfer the information to our brain, and later our brain will process the information and will effect our body system. Good health more or less, comes from this perspective. You shall smile, think of good things only and the aura effect your brain again, and you will enjoy your life very much. Do learn to accept what fate has destined for you. Be grateful to God always.

Rule 55
“Be the best person you can be.”

Off all the rules, I think Ron Clark has saved the best to the last. I like like like this rule. So whatever our doing always attempt to do it better. If you are a muslim than be the best muslim ever, if you are a child be the best child in the world. If you are a mother, equip yourself well enough and be the best mother that your child would be proud of. And if you are a teacher, then do educate your student to be the best student ever exist in the world.

Enough for now. Time to sleep.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-37515252724144205812012-02-12T15:40:00.002+08:002012-02-12T15:43:16.411+08:00Kursus Penggunaan Blog untuk Jabatan Pengajian Melayu

Selamat Datang ke Kursus Blog - Jabatan Pengajian Melayu

Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-78198793516421030332012-02-01T00:03:00.006+08:002012-02-01T00:47:24.091+08:00PISMP Convocation PortalQuite several months I wasn't blogging. Lots of things to settled. By end of the year, I was assigned to complete a portal for the PISMP Convocation. Involved with module for staff training and etc. Finally, the module completed on time and the portal has also already being published. Though most of the content nearly done, and can already be accessed via www.lmsipda.net/konvo2012/, as usual if there is time, i'll will keep on edit here and there. Thanks Tn Rosdan, for helping me in the graphical design. I remembered when i first published the portal it's combination of colors is so striking and unmatched. Though it is able to function well but i need some artistic touch to make it eye-catche. Thanks again to closest friends who always give constructive comments and suggestion for me to improve the portal. And for the PISMP student, 2008 intakes Congratulation for being nominated in the convocation list. Do confirm your attending via the system.
Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-35746827306152259042011-10-13T14:40:00.004+08:002011-10-13T15:23:05.633+08:00Turning PointOn 9 to 11 October 2011, i was very overwhelmed with the opportunities given to attend a seminar conducted by my own institute. The venue was in Naza Tallya Penang. Nice view because the hotel is just like side by side with the beautiful beach of Batu Feringgi. Upon arrival, I did enjoy the astounding view of the beach. Me and friend Zuraida did posing with the hotel visitors. The lady from left is from United State and the the second lady from right is from Bangladesh. The latter actually is a newly wed couple. Hmm a week ago, that what she told us. Her husband is the person who took the snapshot of us. Obviously you can witness the beautiful scenery of the beach and ocean behind us.

The keynote speaker for the seminar is Associate Prof Madya Dr. Norzaidi Mohd Daud, a visiting professor for the King Saud University. He is from UiTM Shah Alam and surprisingly he is only 38 years. From the information he told us, he received his phd since 2008. And I was very astonished with his successful in his area where currently he has written 70 published article and 10 books. Aspired with that I hope I will have one sooner or later.

Starting the keynote address with the title "Quality Research", he asked us to take out a piece of A4 paper and mentioned that he wanted to teach us to do some magic with the paper. In my mind ("aha, so excited coz i'll know one magic trick, and can't wait to share it with my student"). He later asked the audience to draw "a leaf". So everybody started their creative invention of a leaf. Nicely drawn on the piece of paper, me too did the same thing. Without further benefit my right side of my brain, I just drew the leaf as what i have been taught since in primary school. Later we passed up our fancy and creative art work to him. He later analysed the drawing one by one, very fast and each of the art work was given the same comment, "common", "not creative enough" etc. Till later he at last found two pieces of art work which were differ from the others. And later he continued his speech by mentioning that in order to have a quality research, we must brave enough to think out of the box. So that's the point of the magic trick. I felt so defeated with the introduction but I appreciated the induction he gave. So this is how to be creative. Yet I can apply this to my class. he he. Thanks prof...

He did asked the audience. "who has already holding a phd", "still struggling for one"and "haven't even started yet"... So each of the audience did raise their hands accordingly. Well, still fresh in my mind he did said that in the making of phd most of the effort comes from ourselves. Majority (95%) from the student own effort and only 5% is contributed by the supervisor. Wow, is that so!... Couldn't answer that yet, coz I myself haven't started one yet.

Hope one day....

need to stop here first. It's time to do some other thing. The picture above depicted the guests and the hosts for the opened house (most of them are the hosts, except the guys and two other girls and me).
My first dishes was the meehun soup. Nice and delicious blended ingredients. Taste so delightful. I ate one bowl, intended to add some more but, has to reserve my stomach to other food too. I asked them whether they catered the food or home made, and surprisingly they prepared them all by themselve. Linda acted as the chief cook. Hmm not bad at all. Although busy completing their assignments they still can cooked good and delicious food for the opened house. Later I tried several raya biscuits and taste so good too. Finally I grabbed one fried popiah. Hmm, soft and sweet savory taste really made me wanted to take some more. Later when I wanted to go back, they packed and go for me the delicious and savory popiah. Thank you girls for the invitation (please don't hesitate to invite me next time, he he!). Today I met one of them(I called her penglipur lara (how she got the name, I'll reveal later, in other post) and asked for the recipe for the popiah gravy. The gravy they made is really tasty, mouth watering and I like it very much. So here I revealed the secret for the gravy preparation.

Ingredients:
1. Dried Chilly
2. Wow enjoyed the holiday very much. Lots need to be shared, but put it aside first. Yesterday I started my routine at the office again. Met my PPISMP BnK 2 student during ICT class. While lecturing, I saw somebody that I knew waving to me from outside of the lab. She knocked and entered the class. I wuz given a surprised visit from my former student who just came back from portmouth uk for several days holiday celebrating the hariraya holiday in Malaysia. Intan Bakri, I still remember her name even it's nearly one n half year she has left this college to further her study. Yesterday also I got a message from Athirah, my ex bahasa arab PPISMP student mentioning she is about to fly to jourdan to further her study. Good for both of u. I really appreciated their thought to make an effort to keep in touch with me(that's the sweetness for being an educator, wherever, whenever, our student still recognize and remember us). So much about their story, let me proceed with mine.

Today I attended a staff meeting at the hall. In the hall, I sat next to a very experience friend in the hall(Pn. Sharifah Izhar). She is well known as the person that we refer when it come to ethic n protocol. I've learnt a lot from her. The things that I learnt today are:

a) When there is a meeting or gathering, make sure the VIP seats are all set nice and proper infront of the hall. Don't ever do last minute job. Because it's very awkward and annoying when you have to carry the huge settee in the middle of the gathering. And furthermore, when the sette quantity is not tele to the VIP guests. Since there are 4 settee available but only three were filled up. the other one look so empty and nobody sitting on it. (Thought we must appreciated the effort of the person to make it happenned to at least bring the settee there. just imagine if the sette is not avail there, sure the VIP guest must sit on a plain chair (a banquet chair I guess).

b) During the meeting, the mc invites several newcomers to come and introduced themselve to the audience. One of the newcomer come to front and introduced herself. And I can see, after she's done with the introduction, she went back to her seat, but I can see that when she walked away, she grip her cloth. Then I learnt that we shouldn't use our hand to hold and grip our cloth like that coz from the body of languages people can tell that we are not confidence. Yup, I sometime did that too without I realised it. Our subconcious mind has made us do that. So next time, I must remember, do not or never ever grip or hold your cloth like that. Let you hand free from holding anything. That can describe your confidence level.

c) One of the newcomer come to front later. and this time she looks much confidence. She introduced herself smoothly and glad to be with us. But the don't thing is that she walked pass through behind the VIP seats. According to my friend, it is much appropriate if she could walk through in front of the VIP and bend down a little to show respect.

d) If you are giving the speech, do avoid grabbing or surrounded your hand around the rostrum coz it's shows that you have the power unless you yourself really meant it.

e) At the end of the meeting, the VIP come to the floor and on his way out to the door, he shakes hands with the audience. And again here, a reminder, please do stand up and even if your hand couldn't reach the VIP, just to let him know that you are aware of his existance, and at least show some respect too.

That's enough for today. Later when i get some more tips I'll share it here again.

Till meet again.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-31355897079288252512011-08-17T13:48:00.001+08:002011-08-17T13:50:23.502+08:001200 Above Sea Level

1200m Above Sea Level Slideshow: Azizah’s trip to Malaysia was created by TripAdvisor. As promised I'll continue with the previous topic "To keep or to go".

Remember last time I did mentioned about how vital my student's evaluation to me?. Yup!. Being an educator is my dream since I was a kid. I remembered how I admired my primary school teacher. They had spent their precious time educated me (on these of course included their energy, their patience, money and everything). Still fresh in my mind how my headmaster at that time Cikgu Abdullah(I don't know where he is now.. Ah how i wished i could meet him now and payback his sacrifice towards me at that time. Because of their effort and of course not to leave behind the inspiration from my family especially my late dad, I managed to step my foot at the Mara Junior Science College in Kuala Trengganu. Studied there till SPM, before I could further my study to a much higher level. I always look up and wish to join them being an educator.

However after graduating, I embarked myself in IT field. At first I worked as a programmer then promoted to a system analyst post at one of the higher institution here in Malaysia. Working there really equipped me with tons of IT knowledge. Cosy and conducive working environment. Warm and friendly college and etc. Wow what a flashback. Let me cut this short. After several years working there, I applied for a course called "Kursus Perguruan Lepas Ijazah". To make this mumbling shorter, let me just mentioned, studied for a year and later I was qualified to be a teacher. But my opportunity bestowed by Allah is much more than that. I was accepted to be a lecturer in one of the Teacher's training Institute up north.

Yup. Since then I was so called a Lecturer a.k.a an Educator. The career that I was once dreamed off. And year after year continue, I still hold that title and promised to myself to do the best in me to educate the new generation. Here I am still there.

And, back to the title I was about to tell, after the evaluation process, I was interviewed by the two evaluators mentioned before in the previous blog. So the interviewed went on and on. And after the interview, my memory kept on flashing back what had happened during the interview session. Have you being through this. Some kind of feeling that you felt that you could performed better than what you have done. Yup, that what occurred to me. I don't know what the result would be. But I do hope I will success with flying colours, although deep in my heart I believe, I could do it much better.

And of course this kind of feeling just like a repetition image. It kept on wandering in your mind and you felt so occupied with this feeling and how hard I tried to let it go, it keep on wondering around. Well, as most motivators say, "Just let it out, tell your trusted friends, sooner it will fly away". It so true, I let it out, I expressed what I felt to those I trusted friends out there. And besides, my husband also suggested me to read "The Haikal Seven". Alhamdulillah, thanks to the Most Merciful God, Allah I'm now fully recovered from that uneasy feeling. I am now, back to my normal life, cheerful, enthusiasm like before, ready to fit in again. And my advise to friends out there, if you have problems just let it out, tell to your friend, sometime when you know someone is listening, that is good enough. Never kept any problem to yourself. Share it with your closest people around you. They might understand.

So that's all for the topic to keep or to go. Keep on reading, next time I'll continue with other interesting topic.

Till then.... Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-75577658690699490912011-08-12T08:59:00.018+08:002011-08-12T10:34:15.446+08:00To keep or to go?Hi, morning. What a beautiful Friday?. Nice weather, cold and quiet. Quiet because today is a weekend in Kedah. So no sound of school busses or cars. Today I can rest the whole day. My husband is still in the mosque. He cycled to the mosque after our "sahur" meal (an early breakfast during the fasting month) and now 9.06 am, he hasn't come back. Usually he goes there with my stream. But today he cycled there. Before he went out, I smiled and giggled and added "wow, macam cerita P.Ramlee pulak". He used my son's new raleigh, and it' really reminds me of P.Ramlee old and classic movie "Ali Baba Bujang Lapok".
So enough for the induction, let me begin today's blog journal by the above title "To keep or to go". Well, if you looked at the title, you might assumed that it is related to things and old stuff?. If so, your assuming instinct is wrong. So better keep on reading....

Yesterday was a really long day for me. Yesterday also was a big day for me. Yesterday also the day I was evaluated by two appointed evaluator. The story started 2 months back. There was an advertisement by the administration regarding the post of "Pensyarah Cemerlang". My organisation encouraged their staff to grab this opportunity by filling the form and they will filter and submit the candidates who are qualified for the post. Early this month I got the good news, which stated that my submitted form was accepted and I was in the shortlisted to be interviewed and monitored for the purpose of evaluation. And of course I'm not alone. There are also some other shortlisted candidate from my college. So after waiting for several days, yesterday did arrive and I have tried to perform my best during the monitoring and interviewed.
The first chapter of the evaluation begins with a monitoring session by the evaluator towards my teaching and learning practice. My usual class is normally takes 2 hours, but yesterday I needed to cut short my lesson to 1 hour only. So I did some arrangement and prepared a Teaching and Learning Plan for an hour session. Since the topic that I wanted to cover yesterday is more on skill based, so I implemented the demonstration strategy. In my opinion, for a skill topic, I must give the opportunity to my student to acquire the skill by doing. Luckily, most of the student able to access to one pc each and three of them used their own pc. The arrangement of the station in the lab, is like 4 columns with 6 rows each. So that's make 24 of pcs. Since there are three pc's failed to function well, so the student chose to use their own notebook.
Before the session started, my phone beeped twice. Lots of messages. They are messages wishes me luck for that interview and monitoring session. Thank you guys for sending me all the wishing luck messages. It's really boost up my confidence level. Well, by receiving these messages really make me smile and grateful. I'm glad I still have friends out there who really cares and wish me the best. One of the messages is from Kak Yan, "Zah.. all the best 2 u. Kakyn yakin Zah will shine". The other from my organisation deputy director "Selamat dinilai. Saya berdoa semoga berjaya. buktikan ipda mempunyai ramai pensyarah cemerlang IT". From Sumaiyah "Good luck Kak Zah" and several others. Thanks again guys. By receiving messages like that did boost my adrenalin and reduce my nervous. Ha ha you might laughed when reading this, but try to put yourself in my shoe. I'm sure you must have gone thru such an anxiety feeling like this before.
The class went well and smooth at first. However, there arrised several difficulty when I realised that they are two students at the back who were left behind the others. While the others have completed the task, and I'm about to go to the next step, they raised their hands. What should I do?. I can't simply proceed and let them left behind and behind. So I asked the others to proceed to explore the term that I'm gonna use after this. And I even mentioned to them to get the note I posted ealier in our Learning management system. So I strode to their station and try to walk them through. I guessed they must have missed my explanation just now. (I assumed because their stations were at the last rows. So I think is it due to my voice. I believed my voice is loud enough to be heard. And beside, the other guys who sat at the last row able to listen and do the task well. Hmm, as a teacher and a mother, I felt very concern with their performance. I'm very determined to make sure everybody in the class are able to get what I deliver and because of that I'll make sure they both able to do the task. Then I proceeded with the lesson. By the end of the class, I indeed believe most of the student are able to compete the task well.
Finally the class ended and I walked out the door, and leave my student with the evalutors. I guessed they were collecting data from the student. And I'm so sure the were collecting the evaluation data from the student. I wonder what do my student rate me?. Usually I rate them, in their quizzes, in the task accomplishment and etc. But today is vice versa. Their opinion towards me is very vital.

To be continued. (I haven't reach the title yet, so better keep on reading).

I wonder why?. I always remind my student, "come on guys, better be in the front. Coz when your seat near the presenter, you can hear much better, and your view also won't be disrupt by others". Hmm it reminds me of the class I attended during my sophomore year at Arkansas State Univ. Each time when I came to class, I would rather choose the third row in the middle seat. Why? Because at that time I feel so secure being in the middle. Usually my class was organised with chairs of 7 columns and 7 rows. If I sit too near to the Professor, I needed to raise my head coz, most of the Caucasian Lecturers are very high in height. I felt so inconvenience to keep raising my head up to 45 degree to see the lecturer's face. And one other reason is by sitting in the middle I felt like, the lecturer can easily see me too. Not to mentioned, when it comes to Q&A, he will usually point his fingers to the person sitting infront. Ha here come the trick. For me, by sitting in the middle, at least I got the time to think and give an approriate and correct answer?. enough for my own excuses. However I still agree that to be a front seater, can really make you get more information than the others. And it also shown your confidence level. So Dr. Shwartz, I still at your side regarding being the front seater.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-42007818774517817662011-08-04T14:58:00.011+08:002011-08-04T16:07:47.017+08:00Why do I said so!As promised, I did argue why I didn't agree the confidence level of oneself is how brave you are and how Dr Swartz explained in his book, a navy should jump from a high bridge to the ocean. As I mentioned in my previous blog, I were supposed to jump into the ocean to proved my confidence level, but what i able to do is counting down and followed with "Tolak tuan".
As for me, though I haven't possess the gut to jump to the ocean (I admit, my skill in swimming has become the major barrier why I didn't jump). But still, I try to fight my fear by climbing a high ladder (sort of). he he.

.

Photo depicted above taken from by facebook, it's a one life experience by being the participant to the Tunas Samudera.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-20498953510571097012011-08-02T16:36:00.000+08:002011-08-03T13:21:01.180+08:00Eliminate your fearComplete Chapter 3, and basically in chapter 3 Dr. Swartz suggests the third secret to success which is to "Destroy your fear". Fear is like an enemy to our success, therefore it is very important to take out the fear from oneself. He suggested it well with a story how a navy practise to destroy fear, by jumping from a bridge to the sea. The navy is forced to jump the bridge from a height of several feets to the water. Some of them able to do that and some aren't. This reminded me of my own story when i when to the Tunas Samudera last February. During the training before we are qualified to join the tunas Samudera, we have a 3 days training at Pulau Pangkor. The second day, all the trainees including me, we have to climb an old bridge around 20over feets above sea, and we need to countdown and start jumping to the water. Most of my friends managed to do that easily although with half hearted. Everytime when it reach to my queue, i step backward and lets my friend do so. and when it time to my turn, I embraced my chest with both my hands, with left hand on my right shoulder and right hand on my left shoulder. I couldn't swim (actually this is the skill that I haven't gained. Everytime when my son teach me the lesson, I just could not hold my breath. Not even for 60 seconds. My husband used to teach me too, but i think he must have giving up, coz of my incapability in this skill.
During the jumping, I can see my friends are waiting in the water, just to save me in case I am drowning. Choong and Syikin (the trainers) are both my friends. I know both of them have the life saver certificate, and I'm very sure, they can save me. But I just couldn't jump just like that. So the instructor ask me to countdown like the others. I start counting, "3000, 2000, 1000". And I'm suppposed to jump after final counting 1000, but I couldn't have the gut to jump. why must this be so hard on me.
I started counting again, but this time with "3000, 2000, 1000" and I ended up my counting with "Tolak Tuan", meant that I want the trainer to forcely pushing me down. There you go. Very big splash in the water. Luckily I'm still alive. It not, I couldn't posting my blog here.
The issue here is, I don't think by jumping from a high level place down to the water can be a measurement to our confidence level. But what they said to those who couldn't have the gut to jump from high place down to the water, possess less confidence level". Should I agree with that.
I have my own way of measuring my confidence level. And that's is so true. Continue later...
Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-36647284195691704452011-07-30T10:40:00.002+08:002011-07-30T10:45:08.242+08:00The important of think positively“The magic of thinking big” by Dr David J. Schwartz, a college professor in Georgia State University, Atlanta is a very fine, inspiring and interesting book to read. In the book he reveals several secrets to success. As by the writer what he meant by success are when you are able to gain personal prosperity. And this is varies from the strength of your financial, the power and influence, the ideal job satisfying and an enjoyable life.

I managed to finish chapter one yesterday. Basically the first chapter is about a belief to succeed. And if we set to believe to be able to succeed and there will be a bigger probability that we will success in whatever our doing. I do agree with what the writer said about the personal prosperity. Except that for me I would sort the items in my own way of defining success in life. As a muslim, of course I wanted to committed my entire life to perform my duty to Allah. And major hope that Allah will bless my right doing and if it happened that if I accidently doing the wrong thing, Allah will give guidance to me so that my life will be much blessing and with this blessing I believe I will gain the personal prosperity. And as an educator, the financial strength as mentioned by the writer is not the yard stick to measure my success. If I really wanted to gain prosperity in term of financial security, I wouldn’t have chosen educator as my career. No doubt I do agree that a fine home (I’m grateful to have one), a loving and caring husband, obedient, healthy and cheerful daughter and sons have proved that I am actually now am enjoying the life given to me.

Dr. Schwartz did emphasize the important of having positive thinking and positive attitude. Our mind is very vital influence to the thinking and positive attitude. He did state that our mind is our thought factory and this factory has two foremen which is Mr Triumph and Mr Defeat. Hmm our mind will give signal to the foremen to do work. If we set the positive things then it will signal Mr Triumph and if we set negative things then, it will signal to the Mr. Defeat. As a human, I always trying to have a belief to positive thinking and always strive toward it. However, as proverb says “Hope for the best but expect for the worse”. Thought I will strive harder towards the success, but I must prepare myself to accept for the worse. And it doesn’t mean that I expect for the worse. All my effort will bring me the success and usually when we set to success, it wills success. I remember last time, before I planned to further to my second degree, my worries has risen, keep on asking, “Can I continue, can I focus on studying because my age at that time is already 34 to 35 years old”. But I’ve set very deep, very high to complete the study and even I was given a duration of two years to complete my study, I managed to complete in one an half year. And believe it or not, my CGPA is not bad at all. However I must say that all this success wouldn’t come without the support of people I loved surrounded me. I get the encouragement from them. And don’t forget to mention without the support from the government I wouldn’t achieve the second degree in my life.

And lately I was given two classes to handle. The first class, I have combinations of student from different races while the other classes consists of malay student. As usual, when it comes to the jargons in Information Technology subject, I can’t avoided using the English terms thought the class is conducted in malay but some of the term in IT, remains the usage of English terms. One of the class would preferred me to teach in mixed language, which is English and malay. But the other class is so phobia to English. When they encountered English word, they sort of holding back. I always emphasised to them, that this class is ICT class, and I don’t want language is to be the barrier for them to gain as much knowledge and skills in ICT. What I advised them is everytime you come to my class, don’t forget to bring along your dictionary coz, it might come in handy. And I do teach them, how to get the translation when they are stuck with it. And I feel that I have the responsibility to embedded the confidence level in them. Some of them have very good result in SPM, but when it comes to English, they sort of less confidence. I do mentioned to them, that if they can have very good result in Bahasa Arab, which is also a language, then they shouldn’t have difficulty in English. I urge them to practise more and more. And I even encouraged them to talk in English if possible. Do Set the believe that language is not the barrier for you to gain as much knowledge and skill in the technology. If you put the belief, then I’m sure you will success and each time you have difficulty, you know where to resolve. As mentioned also in Dr Swartz writing that, in his story to choose between a person with high IQ and can memorize better and to a person with a less IQ but have the skill in solving problems, he would rather choose the later. Hmm this one I kind a agree with him. Coz, nowadays if we want to get informations, we can use technology, “Just in time”.

So much for chapter one, we move toward chapter two. This chapter suggest some cure to excusitis. Excusitis is actually the failure to disease. The writer lists four common excuses which are health, intelligence, age and luck excuses. Some people give excuse to success due to their lack of health, or less intelligence, or too old or too young and problem on bad luck. The writer gives several suggestions to recover and cure the listed excuses given. It is very interesting in how he related the excuses with the real life situation that he encountered and the suggestions for curing the excuses.

Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-38749267931928283012011-07-25T13:46:00.003+08:002011-07-25T14:05:42.101+08:00Read, read and readThis morning I attended a presentation by the practical student from uitm, Loqman and Hamdi. Actually there were presenting a system called e-sismi. Actually this system has been developed previously by our polytech (polimas) Hafiz, Firdaus and Ahtar. The system they presented is actually a revised to the old system and enhancing some of the utilities. ehm, again that's not the main point thing to tell here. It's just a started of my next paragraph telling.

After the presentation me and the panels(sort of), our timbalan Tn. Hj. Hashim, krie (our KUKP), Mahanee the system user, and both En. Faisal and Tn. Hj. Azizan (a.k.a) the supervisor for both of the trainees there were invited to join a small invitation (tea break - but it turn out to be lunch!!... lots of durians etc) in the library. And again this is not the thing i wanna share here.

Okay the purpose of this writing is to mentioned that accidently i found a good book in the library (of course it is a good book coz it has been one of the top seller book. Don't have to mentioned, most of you must have read this book by Dr David J. Schwartz titled "The magic of thinking big". I started browsing the front cover and the back cover, nothing enchanted me, but yet as i slipped through the first four pages, i begun to like it. The words, the sentences is so simple and easy to understand. So i decided to borrow the book.

And since it happened so, i promise myself i'll keep posting the review of the book, phase by phase to be shared among those who are interested.

Gotta go first, need to perform my zohor sholat, and later attending a function in the Dewan Zaaba. Actually the function is for "The Majlis Persaraan Pn. Hajah Nor'aini", a very senior lecturer here in IPG KDA.

to be continued.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-22486295873894927402011-07-08T13:29:00.003+08:002011-07-08T13:42:23.560+08:00A come backWow, it has been nearly a year i skipped composing any news on my blog. Blamed it to Mark Zuckerberg. After the existance of facebook, i rarely visit my blog. Facebook has been a phenomena several years back and it has of course affecting me. As so called a social network, i appreciate the effort. Just like the "jejak kasih", i was able to make contact to old friends that i never imagine i can meet again. Some of them from my ex-primary school(SKPC). A very old school in my village, but yet has produced so many successful career men and women. What i heard lately the school has become one of the most preferabble school by parents in the town. Proud of that. I even able to meet some of my friends from my secondary school (MRSM KT). I'm so surprised also, coz i couldn't imagine able to see again my former teachers via online.
Oops got an appointment, i'll be back.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-69598131217274026662009-10-29T15:13:00.012+08:002009-10-29T15:58:09.805+08:00Camping in Pulakol, IPSAHOn 11 to 14 October, a camping has been conducted in Pulakol, IPSAH. Life is so busy lately. After the ISO fever is over, then the camping fever, and finally the result submission fever. Completely done with it, so i grab this opportunity to upload some photos during the hariraya celebration at my college. I was very frustrated, coz my handphone memory really cause me some troublesome. After taking several photos, and suddenly the memory cause me headache and frustration. Only 2 photos can definitely be rescued. I tried to browse the internet regarding the problem, and everywhere i saw comments that my type of sony ericson c910 have some problem with the original memory. Last year when i bought that sony i though it should be okay, because the model has been used in james bond 007 movie, but it wasn't work very well for me. So last week i decide to get another memory and this time i didn't choose the original sony type, but another brand. I got one month warranty for that.. And it's still in good condition till this moment. The previous one couldn display the video very well, but this one it's seems very okay. hopefully....

Some of the photos i wanted to share are:

Photo of me and some of my mentees.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtTLFZ-sCy8xcovgLbsWiXEA8R1eMfdCEYgIt5eqqgR324Z4y1AM-tazvNdclY_dVvY2qxELI_OJU4BzJ1Sp0I2POIsa63rCt74xuoZ2zRUt4bN5GLHTHA6ghBvKOueR7z6Ei8kYtXlnap/s200/5oct2009+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397914281390120770" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrKCy5LEp5ghyphenhyphen9dJfBzMs1Uef7fFE11DYVjziSO8JamnOZHov6hzXRhnNBqco1zAVW23JjHk9FH-IdI0BBPh8jG92TMuPNGYbsbAbFpTXPb8uifsHlPQTbSeDRXTPUu027qP-CmK7fQHj_/s200/5oct2009+006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397914947265559346" />

Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-30391855958231965672009-09-29T13:29:00.005+08:002009-09-29T16:11:04.864+08:00Simple Chocolate CakeHi,
After being so delighted with my first banana cake, I decided to bake another one. Except that this time, there is no more banana in the house. I accidently found my small note book, in my handbag, I slipped through one recipe written few weeks back. This recipe, I got from one of my friend from Science Social Department, Jah. When I saw everybody else keep writing the recipe, I also did the same. Who knows, if i have the time later, i might be able to make the cake too.
Thanks to her, I finally found the recipe in the small note book, and yesterday, after coming back from the office, I dropped by the K-Ceria, a small supermarket or a minimarket, because it's so small if compared with other big size supermarket. Get some cocoa powder, baking chocolate, some soda bicarbonate, flour and daisy corn oil.
Later that night i prepared the cake, and to share with everybody, I listed out some of the ingredients required for the cake preparation. It's so easy, even my 12 year old daughter can make it.
Steam Chocolate Cake Recipes
1. 1 cup of cocoa powder
2. 1 cup of corn oil ( I used daisy)
3. 1 1/2 cup od flour
4. 1 cup of fine sugar ( I used icing sugar, because it's less sweet)
5. 1 tin of ideal milk
6. 1 tea spoon of baking powder
7. 1 tea spoon of soda bicarbonate ( I don't know why we need both of these, baking and soda, does it make any different)
8. a little bit of salt.

How
1. Mixed everything well.
2. Pour everything in the pan (put some oil around the pan, to avoid the cake stick to pan)
3. Steam for one hour. (I was too lazy to steam, so I just baked it in the oven for about 45 minutes with 190 degree)
4. After it's already baked, boil some chocolate (use double boiler), and pour all the chocolate on the cake.
5. While the chocolate topping is still hot, decorate it with some colourful rice chocolate)
6. Call everybody in the house, slice into small pieces, then eat. Everybody can eat, remember that there is no egg in the ingredients.

So, easy. My children already asked me to bake another cake, the same type this coming wednesday night, because there is a hariraya celebration at their school, on thursday, and they want to share the marvelous, delicious, creamy chocolate cake with their friends.

That's for now.Azizah Azizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04054320812460843246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6186186914310978555.post-939864916067163622009-09-27T12:22:00.006+08:002009-09-27T16:56:01.478+08:00Banana CakeHi, Happy Eid. Salam Aidil Fitri.

The festive mood is still around although the hari raya celebration has already ended. My family and me were just coming back from kampung after spending a week holiday in my beloved hometown, inconjunction with the hari raya festival. The day when we drove back to hometown in Kelantan, we were very fortunated because not much traffic on the road. The journey that we usually spend around 5 to 6 hours, has been cut short to approximately less than four hours. I don't know how it happened, since I slept all the way, only once in a while I opened my eyes, and without I realised it, my eye lids closed again. Since that day was a fasting day in ramadhan month, so my husband was driving non-stop starting from my house in Jitra through out the way to my hometown in a small village in Pulai Chondong. Usually, we have to stop for a coffee break and even my children will have the opportunities to practise their swimming and diving skills in one of the river somewhere in Perak. But, since that day was a fasting day in ramadhan, obviously we didn't need to make any stop until we reached our destination.
All the way, we witnessed several road accidents. Somewhere in Grik, a car was upside down, and not long after that several cars bumped to each others, and the others, I didn't remember coz obviously I was sleeping when that occured. Alhamdulillah, we were safely arrived.

Now, I was back in Jitra again, after splendidly, spending our precious holiday moment. And today is my working day again. The normal routine goes on again.

Yesterday, I did bake a banana cake to bring to the office. This is the first time I baked a banana caked, yes I admit, I have eaten some banana cakes several times, and watching my sister preparing and baking the cake, but yet never did it with my own hand.

The recipe is so simple( I got this recipe from my sister), what I need is
1. Banana - the most important ingredients, a must have, if this is omitted, then we couldn't afford to have a banana cake. My sister said it is better if i used the kapas type, but what i have only the berangan type. Since i got the berangan type, and since my husband loves to eat banana cakes very much, then i made an effort to prepare this.
2. 2 cups of flours
3. 1 cup of sugar
4. 1 cup of condensed milk. I think we can also use fresh milk coz it is less sweet.
5. 1 cup or corn oil
6. a table spoon of soda bicarbonate( only a table spoon, and not a spoon that sized a table)
7. a table spoon of ovellete. (When i prepare the cake, i don't have the ovellete, so i just replaced it with vegetable spread)
8. Don't forget 3 eggs. Make sure only the eggs not the chicken.
9. A little bit of salt. Since i'm not using butter or margerine so i need salt
10. Several drops of vanilla essence. Luckily i got the several last drops in the freeze.

Mix all the ingredients well. Then baked at 180 - 200 degrees arround 30 to 40 minutes. Depends, you have to always poke the cake with fork to make sure it's already baked. (that what i did)

Finally, i have made my very own first banana cake. It taste very good, moist but quite sweet. May be next time i will reduce the amount of the sugar from one cup to three quarter cup. Or may be, the cup that i used should be smaller in size. I guess.

The ingredients amount as mentioned able to produce 2 medium size banana caked. I slices some and packed for my son to bring to his school.

I brought the banana cake to the office, and it's not bad at all.
